Graffiti in Kingborough

Kingborough Council is taking a proactive approach to manage graffiti in our community. Working closely with Tasmania Police, local property owners, residents and various other organisations, we have developed a Graffiti Management Guideline which outlines the procedures we will use to prevent, reduce and remove graffiti from public spaces around Kingborough.

Our approach includes promptly removing offensive or inappropriate graffiti from Council-owned property and assessing non-offensive graffiti for potential removal.

When graffiti appears on private property, such as those owned by businesses or utility providers, we will notify the owners to take action.

To prevent graffiti, we will utilise green walls where possible, with plantings in front of Council infrastructure that is likely to be a target for graffiti.

Key initiatives already undertaken include a graffiti audit, the removal of prominent graffiti in the Kingston area, the commissioning of a mural, and the establishment of a graffiti register for use by both Council and Police. These efforts will continue, alongside additional projects aimed at effectively managing graffiti throughout our municipality.

We encourage residents to report graffiti directly to us so we can assess and respond promptly and involve law enforcement when necessary.

Through a collaborative, proactive approach, Council aims to maintain a vibrant and welcoming environment for all, while also providing clear avenues for residents to report and prevent graffiti in their local areas.
