Denison Reserve Weed Control
This project focused on weed control to address threats to biodiversity values within and adjacent to Denison Street Reserve in Kingston. This reserve contains ‘Eucalyptus amygdalina forest and woodland on sandstone’, a threatened vegetation community as well as a threatened species of orchid.
Wootten Drive Weed Control
Areas of the threatened vegetation community ‘Eucalyptus tenuiramis forest and woodland on sediments’ on private land were treated for problem weeds including bluebell creeper, boneseed and sweet pittosporum. These areas were considered to be a seed source for these weeds and potential source for reinfestation of an adjacent Council reserve.
Eucalyptus rubida Research Project
Known as candlebark, Kingborough populations of this priority species represents its southernmost distribution. The Eucalyptus rubida research project enabled the accurate collection of data of this hard to identify species, and highlighted that the species meets the criteria for ‘endangered’ at a local scale.
Interpretive Seagrass Signage around North West Bay
This project focussed on education of the local seagrass communities in North West Bay through the creation of interpretive signage. The signs were installed at three separate locations around North West Bay; Howden, Dru Point and Margate Marina.
Seabird Habitat Protection at The Neck, Bruny Island
One of the greatest threats to the breeding habitat of seabirds at the Neck on Bruny Island was found to be the trampling of burrows by people walking off the marked tracks and boardwalks. To help discourage visitors from leaving the tracks, snake signage was installed which highlighted that snakes were present in the area.
