Local artist Peter James’ exhibition ‘Stepping Out’ is an artistic reflection focusing on the onslaught of digital technologies, the perceived need for speed and what goes with it. Are we losing the basic needs that stir inside us; the human connection, love, peace and an urge for a simple life? The art of escapism is the artist’s approach to detach from these issues.
Peter studied fine art at the University for the Creative Arts in England whilst working as a graphic designer. In Tasmania he has continued his art practice whilst illustrating two children’s picture books, one of which he wrote. Design, pattern and fine art have fused to influence the artist’s style.
