New mural unveiled at Blackmans Bay Skate Park

A new mural by artist Jasper Kelly has been unveiled at Blackmans Bay Skate Park with a free BBQ and community event on Friday, 31 January to celebrate the occasion.
As part of the Kingborough Council’s School Holiday Program, Jasper engaged with young, budding artists who were eager to learn and create.
“I met some incredible kids that blew my mind with how kind compassionate and respectful, as well as talented in the arts and on the park,” Jasper said.
“Hanging out at a skatepark for 14 days was a blast from the past.
“I love these spaces and what they provide for kids, teens and adults.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those kids for all your kind words.”
Mayor Paula Wriedt congratulated the artist Jasper, and the young people involved for such a fantastic mural that has brightened up the area.
Cr Wriedt also thanked the Blackmans Bay Community Association who suggested improvements to the skatepark area following community consultation.
“This project is a great example of Council working with a local community group to enhance some much loved facilities,” Cr Wriedt said.
The completed mural has revitalised the Blackmans Bay Skate Park with vibrant colours, which Jasper said he is incredibly happy with the result.
“Overall, just the most satisfying mural and project to be a part of,” Jasper continued.
“I’m always trying to push myself with every job and how I paint and my concepts.
“After more than 10 years of working on my practice I finally feel really confident and happy with my skill set and results”.
The free BBQ and community event at the Blackmans Bay Skate Park runs from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Friday, 31 January and includes free face painting, circus skill activities, chalk competition, the Huon Valley Soft Serve food truck and more.
Entry is free and no RSVP is required.
