Kingborough Set for AFL HPC

Council is thrilled to announce that the Kingston Twin Ovals will become the new home of the Tasmanian Devils High Performance Training Centre.

Mayor, Paula Wriedt said at the final meeting for the year, the Council voted unanimously to support the Tasmania Devils AFL High Performance Centre being built in the Kingborough Sports Precinct.

“This exciting development represents a major milestone for Kingborough, with the facility expected to inject $55 million annually into the local economy,” Cr Wriedt said.

“The High Performance Centre will be funded by the State Government and the AFL.

“Kingborough Council’s role will include providing the land for the development and staff support throughout the process.

“The project will include the construction of two additional ovals within the Kingborough Sports Precinct, one located above and the other below the existing Twin Ovals.

“We know that the development will impact some of the facilities currently situated in these areas and we are committed to ensuring they are replaced or relocated with amenities of comparable quality and functionality to meet each user groups’ needs.

“We are very excited as this development is set to make us the heart of elite sports in Tasmania, serving as the hub with two high-performance centres including the JackJumpers facility.

“There are also many benefits for our young athletes with the centre’s proximity to Kingston High School and its focus on sports, health, and wellbeing.

“The governance framework and clear delineation of roles and responsibilities for the project are currently being finalised in collaboration with key stakeholders.

“This project is expected to create hundreds of jobs regional jobs such as hospitality, retail, and the supply of goods and services.

“While some details are yet to be confirmed, Council has prepared responses to frequently asked questions about the project, which is available on our website.

“Kingborough Council is proud to play a central role in delivering a project that will bring significant economic and social benefits to our community, and we look forward to working with all parties to bring this vision to life.
