As the weather warms up, Council is encouraging people to participate in our Dose of Nature walks.
Acting Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright said the Dose of Nature program encouraged community members to explore Kingborough’s reserves and improve their health and wellbeing by connecting with nature.
“About to start its third year, the Dose of Nature sessions have been identified in our new Health and Wellb eing strategy as a way of promoting good health through spending time in nature,” Cr Glade-Wright said.
“These walks are supported by Council’s Natural Areas Interpretations Officer and a Health Practitioner every Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and rotate every week with a different location.
General Practitioner Anna Seth said research showed that time spent connecting with nature could improve mental and physical health as well as reduce anxiety and increase happiness.
“The Dose of Nature program offers a gentle way to try this out with a welcoming group, supported by health and wellbeing professionals,” Dr Seth said.
Kingborough Natural Areas Interpretations Officer, Bridget Jupe said many participants had never been to the reserves and were surprised by Kingborough’s wonderful natural areas so close to home.
“Our urban bushlands contain a rich diversity of native species, habitats and vegetation communities,” Ms Jupe said.
Acting Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright acknowledged the incredible support that the program received from the medical and allied health professionals in Kingborough.
“We know our community really values walking with 45.1% of the Kingborough population participating in activities on our tracks network.
“There are over 45 tracks and trails throughout Kingborough that can be found on our website or by visiting the Greater Hobart Trails website.”
