Throughout December, Council will be hosting 2 Intergenerational Pop-Up Cafes for older people at the Kingborough Community Hub.
Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the Pop-Up Cafes encouraged older people to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee prepared by young baristas, as well as a selection of delicious handmade treats, while listening to an engaging presentation from a guest speaker.
“The Pop-Up Cafes are hosted by young participants from our ‘Get Ready for Work’ course which is funded by a Tasmanian Community Fund Grant,” Cr Wriedt said.
“Our cafes are a wonderful way for young baristas to showcase their new skills and bring together people of different generations for shared activities and conversation.
“On 6 December, local legend Edna Pennicott and long-time advocate for community welfare, will reflect on her remarkable 40+ years of service.
“Kingborough Helping Hands was founded by Edna in 2013 and provides essential support to countless people in need of access to food and other vital resources.
“On the 13 December, come along to hear Council’s Natural Areas Interpretation Officer Bridget Jupe discuss the vital role of Kingborough’s pocket reserves in preserving local wildlife and wildflowers.
The Pop-Up Cafes have been run successfully since October 2022 and are part of Kingborough Council’s Youth and Positive Ageing programs.
Bookings for our Pop-Up Cafes can be made through Council’s events webpage, in person at Customer Service at the Civic Centre, 15 Channel Highway or by calling 6211 8200.
