Health and Wellbeing Strategy

Kingborough Council released its Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2024-2029 providing a comprehensive plan to foster a healthier and more connected community.

Kingborough Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the Strategy highlighted 61 actions to promote good mental health, encourage active lifestyles, and improve access to vital services and recreational opportunities.

“The Council aims to address current health challenges in the community while building a more resilient community for the future,” Cr Wriedt said.

“The development of the Plan highlighted that the current services and facilities offered by Council are positively contributing to the health and wellbeing of the community.

“Key actions include increasing access to recreational spaces, promoting mental health awareness, and fostering social inclusion through community programs.

“With support from the Healthy Tasmania Lift Local grants, Council has been able to offer a range of free or subsidised health and wellbeing programs and talks.

“These have included some Pilates and resistance band classes, community yoga, healthy eating activities and free blood pressure checks.

“Upcoming activities promoting wellbeing include a class on Strengthening your Pelvic Floor talk, a 4-week Fitter Together program and Yoga for Stiff Folks.

“The strategy was developed through extensive community consultation and reflects the unique needs and aspirations of Kingborough’s residents.”
