On Tuesday morning, Council staff identified a significant sewer spill at the Kingston Beach Yacht Club stormwater outfall. TasWater were notified and cleared the blocked pipe.
‘No Swim’ advisory signs were installed at the southern end of Kingston Beach.
A recreational water quality test was conducted by Council 24 hours after the spill was fixed and the site was cleaned by TasWater.
The test result confirmed that it is now safe to swim in the southern end of Kingston Beach.
It’s important to note that it is not advised to swim in the Derwent Estuary for two days following heavy rainfall.
Additionally, it is recommended to avoid swimming at any time near stormwater outfalls or urban rivulets, as these areas are more prone to contamination.
