National Tree Day 2024

This year, Kingborough Council will host a community planting on National Tree Day in Taroona Park (Apex Park) on Sunday 28 July from 10am to 2pm.

Kingborough Mayor, Paula Wriedt said the day is a great family friendly event which helps enrich biodiversity for local wildlife and the health and wellbeing of its participants.

“For 15 years Kingborough Council has hosted National Tree Days which have helped restore local ecosystems, with over 18,000 shrubs and trees planted throughout this time.

“This National Tree Day, volunteers will be improving the health of the large iconic gum trees in this well-loved area by planting a native understory,” Cr Wriedt said.

“The gum trees in this park, have a lack of understory which has inhibited the movement of small bids and animals through the area.

“This National Tree Day we will be planting a diverse range of native plants, grown in the Council nursery from locally sourced seeds.

“National Tree Day is such a great way for everyone to meet new friends and contribute to a better future for Kingborough.

“Everything you need will be provided, just wear good solid shoes and clothes that can get muddy and rug up as it is often cold.”

“We hope the local Taroona and wider community will join us for another fun and fulfilling day connecting to nature and growing community.

Parking is along Nubeena Crescent and nearby streets or walk up though the bush from Taroona Beach area.

Please leave the Fire station clear so the brigade can respond to an emergency if needed.
