Refugee Week

On Thursday 20 June, Council is hosting a Refugee Week event at the Kingborough Community Hub with special guest Arad Nik who will be sharing his lived experience of escaping Iran and his subsequent journey to Tasmania.

Kingborough Acting Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright said Council was committed to creating a community that is inclusive, safe, welcoming and respectful for all.

“Kingborough has one of the highest multicultural populations in Tasmania and we want to continue to celebrate and support people from diverse backgrounds through events and community programs,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

“At the Refugee Week event we will be screening the heart-warming documentary ‘Rosemary’s Way’ which shines a light on the remarkable Rosemary Kariuki.

“The film shows the positive impact that she has had on women from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

“Come along and show support for those around the globe who have undertaken courageous journeys into the unknown to find safety and peace.

Tickets are $15 which includes authentic Ethiopian food.
