Kingborough Council is committed to creating a community that is inclusive, safe, welcoming and respectful for all.
Acting Mayor, Clare Glade-Wright said the Council sought to better understand and address the needs of our multicultural communities through the development of a Multicultural Advisory Group.
“We are extremely lucky here in Kingborough because over 21% of the population were born overseas, compared with 15% of the population for the whole of Tasmania,” Cr Glade-Wright said.
“It is extremely important that we make sure that we are listening to our multicultural voices.
“Expressions of interest are open to anyone with a multicultural background or who deliver services to Kingborough’s multicultural community to take part in a Multicultural Advisory Group.
“It is proposed that a Multicultural Advisory Group would have up to twelve members and be chaired by Councillor.
“The Multicultural Advisory Group, once formed, will engage with the community which will enable Council to develop a Multicultural Strategy.
“Expressions of interest to participate in the group open between 8 May and 5 June.”
