Kingborough has seen significant rainfall during the week and has affected the water quality results at Kingston Beach north, near the mouth of Browns River.
Browns River historically experiences poor water quality for a few days after rainfall events because of its significant urban catchment. Due to the sampling results, Council suggests that swimming at the northern end of Kingston Beach is not advisable until the morning of Monday, 24 December.
This follows the adviceĀ from the Derwent Estuary Program to avoid swimming in the Derwent River for several days after heavy rain, or at any time near stormwater pipes and rivulets as beaches are likely to be impacted by contaminated storm water. Rainfall is forecast to ease from tomorrow and water quality is predicted to improve by Monday morning.
