Engineering Services is responsible for setting the specifications and the construction and maintenance of Council's infrastructure including roads, reserves, sports facilities, stormwater systems and solid waste management. Other key roles include engineering investigation, planning, asset management and the designing of capital works projects for upgrading Council's infrastructure. In addition the department provides contract supervision for capital works projects undertaken by external sources.
The Works Department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, reserves, halls and buildings, sports ovals, storm water systems and the operation of the Bruny Island refuse disposal site. It is also responsible for the maintenance and replacement of Council's major plant fleet and minor plant. The focus of the Works Department is a schedule of maintenance activities, although specific capital works projects are also undertaken.
